Standard Students
Do you meet all requirements for admission? Do you wish to pursue a certificate or degree program? At Booth, we call that a regular admission student. Carry at least nine credit hours in a given semester or at least 18 credit hours in the regular session, and you’re a full-time student. Fewer than nine, and you’re considered part-time.
Transfer Students
If you’ve been out of high school for at least one full semester and attempted some college or university work for credit, you’re a transfer student. Standard admission requirements, but if you’ve been studying at a post-secondary institution for at least three years, we don’t require your high school transcript.
Home-Schooled Students
We consider home-schooled graduates person by person. We’ll need a record prepared by your educator showing a complete list of the subject areas you studied and the grades you received. If you have official transcripts from out-of-home educational institutions, we’ll need those, too. We’d also like to see testimonials from those who have worked with you in tutorials, apprenticeships, community service, and social activities. Detailed descriptions of unusual home-school courses, in-depth independent projects, competitions, publications, and community service activities also help us make an informed admissions decision. Finally, we require an academic interview (in person, if possible) before we make our decision about admitting you. Contact the admissions office to arrange your interview.
Mature Students
Applicants who do not meet the regular admission criteria can be considered for admission to full-time or part-time studies as mature students, provided you:
• will be at least 21 years of age during the academic year;
• have not attended school full-time for at least two years;
• can demonstrate potential for academic success at the college level by providing letters of reference, transcripts for secondary/high school work completed, and official transcripts for any post-secondary studies completed.
We’ll take a look at your individual circumstances, and if you’re admitted, we’ll consider you a special admission student. That means we might work together to establish a reduced course load for you. And at the end of your first full-time year — or once you complete 18 credit hours as a part-time student — you must turn in an accumulated GPA of 2.0. A lower GPA may mean dismissal from the college.
Occasional Students
Occasional students are those not formally admitted to the college, who do not register for courses in order to earn certificate or degree credit. Occasional students may take courses for a maximum of six credits or audit hours per semester. You don’t have to complete an Application for College Admission to enroll in courses as an occasional student, but you can apply for official admission to the college later. If you’re admitted, the credits you earned as an occasional student apply toward the certificate or degree program you choose.
Visiting Students
A visiting student takes courses at the College by submitting a letter of permission from his or her home institution. Visiting students studying at Booth College part-time don’t need to complete an Application for College Admission, but if you’re a part-time visiting student who wants to attend Booth full time, you should complete the admission process.
Re-Admission
Full-time students who take 12 months off — or 24 months for part-time students — after registration at Booth College will need to apply for re-admission.
